Montgomery College Establishes Collective Impact Institute

Montgomery College will launch the Collective Impact Institute, a cross-sector partnership initiative designed to convene community leaders and organizations to address complex challenges and advance shared priorities across Montgomery County.

This work builds on a strong foundation. For the last decade, "Montgomery Moving Forward" has led collective impact efforts across the County, bringing sectors together around shared goals and measurable outcomes for residents. Montgomery College honors that legacy and is committed to carrying this work forward in close partnership with the organizations and leaders who helped build it.

Through this initiative, the College is deepening its mission as a community convener and catalyst for shared progress, bringing partners together to expand opportunity, strengthen collaboration, and help shape a thriving future for the region.

Housed within the College’s Advancement and Community Engagement division, the Institute will bring together partners from education, business, government, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors to strengthen collaboration in areas such as education, workforce development, and economic mobility.

The initiative builds on Montgomery College’s longstanding role as a trusted community partner and aligns with the College’s strategic goals to enhance connections with the community and increase economic impact for students and the region.

As part of this effort, Montgomery College recently welcomed Ian Gordon as director of Collective Impact. Gordon brings more than 20 years of experience leading cross-sector initiatives focused on education-to-career pathways, economic mobility, and community advancement.

Most recently, he served as vice president at the United Way of the National Capital Area, where he led collaborative community impact and engagement efforts focused on measurable outcomes and expanded opportunities for underserved communities throughout the region.

Additional details about the Collective Impact Institute will be shared during its formal launch on June 17.
