I-20: Update, Extend and Travel

SEVIS (Student/Exchange Visitor Information System)

The Office of the International Student Coordinators sends information through SEVIS for each F-1 and M-1 student (and their dependents) carrying a Montgomery College form I-20.

Montgomery College is authorized to issue the SEVIS I-20 form, “Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant student status.” The following boxes explain the procedures for requesting a SEVIS I-20. SEVIS is the Student/Exchange Visitor Information System that allows a school to create a form I-20 "Certificate of Eligibility". The I-20 (data and printed form) provides the information needed from the school for a student to apply to the United States government for a student visa for entry into the United States or Student Status within the United States. NOTE: The deadlines for requesting SEVIS I-20s are much earlier than for academic admission.  Applicants must meet all requirements to receive an I-20.  No "provisional" or "conditional" I-20 can be issued.

ONLINE/REMOTE CLASS POLICY FOR F-1 STUDENT VISA HOLDERS:
According to F1 student visa regulations, ALL F1 student visa holders must enroll as full-time students, which requires a minimum of 12 credit hours. Out of these, at least 9 credits must be from in-person or hybrid classes, while only 3 credits from online or remote courses can count toward the 12-credit requirement to maintain full-time status and comply with F1 student visa requirements.
